International students are eligible for a social security number if they have been given a job offer. If you are not working, there is no other way to receive a social security number. There are no exceptions to this restriction.
Applying for a Social Security Number
- Your employer should give you a “Student Worker Hiring Form” that you will need to bring to the Office of International Engagement for signature. Be certain that the form is completely filled out so that it shows where you will be working, who your supervisor will be, etc. Blank forms will not be accepted.
- The Office of International Engagement will give you a letter stating that you are eligible for a social security number and give you a blank “Employer Verification Letter.”
- Return the “Student Worker Hiring Form” to your employer at UCA and ask that they fill out and sign the “Employer Letter” you were given from International Engagement. The Social Security Office prefers this letter to be printed on department letterhead.
- Take the two letters, along with your passport, I-20 and I-94 card to the Social Security Office off Farris Road located at 2475 Christina Ln. Get walking directions from UCA.
