The Center for Global Learning and Engagement is pleased to announce the Global Citizen Scholarship to international students currently enrolled at the University of Central Arkansas. The Global Citizen Scholarship is a highly competitive scholarship with awards being determined based upon grade point average, essay submission, leadership and/or service experience at UCA and letters of recommendations. Please see below for the full list of eligibility requirements and the application process.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must be currently enrolled at UCA and classified as an international student.
- Students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
- Students from Undergraduate, Degree-Seeking Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate programs are eligible.
- Students must be in good immigration status.
- Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5, based on Undergraduate or Graduate coursework.
- Students must have successfully completed 12 UCA Undergraduate or 9 Graduate credit hours by the end of the spring semester.
- Students enrolled in the Intensive English Program are not eligible to apply.
- Students enrolled as Visiting Students are not eligible to apply.
- Students must be in good academic standing as defined by the current Undergraduate or Graduate Bulletin.

Essay of 500 (minimum) to 750 (maximum) words answering the following questions:
1. What personal and academic goals have you achieved while attending UCA?
2. What long-term goals do you hope to achieve?
3. How have you been practicing Global Citizenship at UCA and in the local community?
4. How will you continue to be a Global Citizen in your country and community after completing your
education at UCA?Letters of Recommendation:Submit 2 current letters supporting your request for scholarship funds. At least 1 of the letters must be from a UCA professor (example your UCA Biology professor or your UCA World History professor) that can speak to your academic performance. All letters should include the individual’s printed name, title, and signature. No more than 2 letters will be accepted.
These letters may be submitted the following ways:
- Uploaded as an attachment to this application
- Sent directly to INTLScholarships@uca.edu (include “Global Citizen” and student name in the subject of the email)
- Delivered to the Center for Global Learning and Engagement at McCastlain Hall, Suite 109.
Students will be notified via email of their eligibility for the scholarship by May 30th (after Spring grades are verified). Award notifications will be sent by June 30th.
Award Amount:
Recipients of the Global Citizen Scholarship are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 UCA Undergraduate or 9 Graduate credit hours in both the fall and spring semesters. Recipients will receive an award not to exceed 12 credit hours (undergraduate) or 9 credit hours (graduate) for the fall and spring semesters plus the International Administration Fee. Awards will be applied to the recipients’ university account each semester after verification of enrollment is completed. Recipients enrolling in more credit hours will be responsible for any additional costs. This award will not cover the International Insurance fee.
Award amounts may be lower depending on factors such as:
- Actual enrollment (with the approval of the Center for Global Learning and Engagement)
- Availability of funding
- Scholarship Committee review
- Other tuition/fee scholarships awarded (e.g., graduate assistant tuition scholarships)
All awards are contingent upon review by the Compliance Office and subject to applicable University policies.
Renewal of Award:
Scholarship awards will be renewed for the Spring semester when the following are confirmed:
- Recipients have maintained a cumulative 3.25 GPA through the Fall semester
- Minimum of 12 Undergraduate credit hours or 9 Graduate credit hours during the Fall semester has been earned.
- Verification of enrollment for the Spring semester – 12 Undergraduate credit hours or 9 Graduate credit hours.
- A student is considered to be in good immigration status.
- Students must be in good academic standing as defined by the current Undergraduate or Graduate Bulletin.
Additional Rules:
Recipients of the Global Citizen Scholarship will assist the Center for Global Learning and Engagement during the award period to coordinate cultural events and/or actively participate in one project per semester.
Only Fall and Spring semesters are covered by the scholarship. Summer terms and intersessions are not covered.
The Global Citizen Scholarship is awarded for the fall and spring semester for one academic year. Students are required to re-apply to receive the scholarship in subsequent years. No preference is given to previous applicants or recipients.
Students who change to Permanent Resident or another US citizenship status while receiving this scholarship will no longer be eligible for the award.
