Jacob M. Held is Professor of Philosophy and Assistant Provost for Academic Assessment and General Education at the University of Central Arkansas. A philosophical generalist with primary training in legal and political philosophy and nineteenth-century German thought, his work spans the history of philosophy from Medieval thought to existentialism, as well as fields including legal theory, applied ethics, philosophy of religion, and the philosophy of art. He has taught a wide range of courses, including Political and Legal Philosophy, Medieval European and Islamic Philosophy, Philosophy of Art, Health Care Ethics, and Business Ethics. In addition, he has taught for the Schedler Honors College, the Bachelor of General Studies program, the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, and the PhD in Change Leadership. He regularly leads a philosophy reading group sponsored by the Arkansas Center for Research in Economics. His current research interests include the Sophists, education and assessment, federalism and civil liberties, and the problem of evil. He has also published extensively at the intersection of philosophy and popular culture and has edited volumes such as Dr. Seuss and Philosophy, Wonder Woman and Philosophy, Roald Dahl and Philosophy, Stephen King and Philosophy, and The Wheel of Time and Philosophy.
