Philosophy
“Challenge by choice”
Each person must choose to “accept the challenge” to participate or not. Incompletion of activities is common and normal. We can encourage but we cannot coerce participation or force activity completion. The goal is not for participants to complete activities but to grow, however small that may be.
Weather
We can operate in the rain. However, if we observe lightning/thunder we have to stop activities. If this happens and you wish to reschedule or finish your reservation at a later date, that can be done at no additional cost.
Limitations
Our facility is staffed by trained student facilitators. Staff must be available for your event.
Our staff have the right to refuse participants and end your event or prevent it from taking place.
Our “age requirement” is 8+ years old. Participants must be physically big enough for harnesses to fit effectively.
We recommend anyone exceeding 270lbs not participate in high ropes activities. Sitting in a harness would cause great discomfort and could lead to injury.
Requirements
Willing participants must:
-
Complete simple tasks like putting on harnesses/equipment, safety briefings/training, receiving instructions, etc.
-
Actively move themselves through obstacles. This is not a ride.
-
Communicate clearly – make their needs known and share ideas with their teammates.
-
Manage the inherent risks associated with these activities by following rules, instructions, and guidance from UCA facilitator staff.
Challenge Course activities may require willing participants to:
-
Stand/walk for long periods of time.
-
Repetitively use their hands.
-
Lift over 1/4 of their body weight.
-
Bend/stoop, kneel/squat, reach/grasp, push/pull (sometimes overhead).
-
Climb or move across various unstable/uneven structure surfaces and ladders at heights over 30 feet.
-
Rely on teammates and staff for physical and emotional support.
Challenge Course staff recommend that willing participants:
-
Seek guidance from their health care provider if they are recovering from any injury or illness of concern before participating.
-
Wear athletic closed toe shoes that can get dirty and wet.
-
Wear modest, comfortable, athletic clothing suitable to outdoor conditions and wearing a harness.
-
Have a way of arranging hair to effectively wear a helmet.
-
Have a way of arranging body jewelry to not interfere with harness fitment.
-
Bring plenty of water and snacks.
-
Bring any necessary personal medical supplies or medications.
-
Bring sunscreen and a hat that can guard against sun exposure.
-
Bring lots of optimism, endurance, enthusiasm, and patience.
