Meet the Firms is the best night of the year for accounting majors. Around 20 firms are here just to meet UCA accounting majors and tell you about internships and jobs. It is a great opportunity to compare different types and sizes of employers. Don’t miss this opportunity. It is only held once per year in September. Attend your junior, senior, and even grad school year to develop a professional network and discover the kinds of places you may want a job in the future.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Any accounting major who is currently in or has finished a 3000-level accounting course.

Professional dress is required.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER is 4pm on Wed, Sep 8.

Must submit a one-page resume and $10 (cash only) to COB 204.

All profits above the event costs will be donated to Ronald McDonald House.

Beta Alpha Psi members (already initiated) may attend at no cost, but must still submit a resume.

Students who do not submit a resume by the deadline will not be permitted to attend.

More details about the event will be emailed to students who sign up. If you have questions, stop by COB 204.

MAcc Scholarship • Apply By August 24

The Accounting Department is pleased to offer scholarships to students pursuing a Master of Accountancy degree. Every eligible student who meets the criteria and applies by the deadline will receive the MAcc Partners Scholarship. This is a $1500 scholarship ($750 per semester). In addition, one student will receive the Stephens Bell Scholarship, which is up to $4500, to be paid over three or more semesters. (The student who receives the Stephens Bell Scholarship cannot receive another MAcc scholarship.)

Note: Scholarships are distributed half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. If you received the first half of a scholarship in spring 2021, you will automatically receive the second half of the scholarship this semester as long as you still qualify. There is no need to reapply.

Insurance Agency (Industry Accounting) – Internship and Beyond

Insurance Agency (industry accounting) | Summer 2021 and beyond Internship (Little Rock)

An insurance agency is looking for a sharp accounting major (preferably with some accounting experience) to bring their accounting records together into one system. Your job would including training on their software (provided by the software vendor), developing processes to collect and input data (e.g., from payroll company and source documents), and training the agency’s employees to follow your processes after your internship is over. Possibility of full-time job offer after graduation.

Tom J. Smith Memorial Scholarship Established for UCA College of Business Students

The family of Tom J. Smith has established a memorial scholarship in his honor at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), his alma mater, to support students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the College of Business. The inaugural award will be given to support a student for the fall 2021 semester.

Tom J. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UCA in 1971 through hard work and diligence, working multiple jobs to fund his education, and was the first in his family to earn a college degree. Higher education made a significant difference in his life, opening doors to many opportunities and eventually propelling him to the position of Administrator of Accounting for the State of Arkansas through the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). Baptist Health (Little Rock) • Project Manager (Payor Relations-Contracting)

This job is open to accounting majors and a variety of other majors. Payor Relations and Contracting is responsible for negotiating contracts, modeling contracts, comparing reimbursement to the contracted rates, and managing the relationship between Baptist Health and the insurance payor. Baptist Health bills around 750,000 patient encounters a year; with some requiring contractual or legal escalation to resolve. This position’s primary responsibility is to manage the escalation process. Partner with the Revenue Cycle team to design, implement, and maintain an escalation process to identify claims or payment processes needing additional support. Coordinate and improve contract operations process between Baptist teams and payors. Responsible for ensuring all parties are on track with schedules and project deadlines. Maintain documentation and identify/resolve issues as they arise.
