Born in Florida, Evan became the Iowa high school state champion in the 50 Freestyle in 1983. At one point, Evan recorded the fastest 50 Freestyle time ever swam in Iowa. He still holds Lincoln High School records in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and was inducted into the Lincoln High Hall of Fame in 2010.
Evan swam for Iowa State for one year then entered the US Army and served 3 years as an Army Medic. After completing his duty, he swam at Henderson State University and was a 16 time NAIA All-American.
Evan started his coaching and aquatic career with the summer league team, the Maumelle Marlins and then moved to a head coaching position with the Searcy Sharks. Evan was the pool manager in both Maumelle and Searcy. Coach Jim Kelley recruited Evan to assist with the Hendrix College swim program and to coach the Aquakids of Conway in 1997 where he stayed until 2011. During that time, he coached several national level swimmers and mentored many swimmers to meet their goal of swimming on the college level. Evan joined the Arkansas Dolphin staff in 2011 and coached the Developmental, Age Group and Masters programs.
Evan contributes many hours to Arkansas Swimming Inc. and works closely with USA Swimming as the Registration Coordinator for Arkansas. He has been named the Arkansas Age Group Coach of the Year four times. He has served as the Arkansas Zone Team coach 8 times and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Arkansas Swimming.
