America At 250 Week Schedule of Activities


Ongoing Events (February 9-12)

  • Art Exhibition on view: America 250 Selfie Throne, by Artist in Residence Kat Wilson, curated by Dr. Rachel Trusty (Department of Art and Design), Baum Gallery, McCastlain Hall
  • Art Exhibition on view: Ancestral Spirits: Stitching the Past to the Present, by Artist in Residence Alice Aida Ayers, curated by Dr. Rachel Trusty (Department of Art and Design), Baum Gallery, McCastlain Hall

  • CAHSS Reach TV Feature: During ten-minute breaks between classes, CAHSS Reach TVs will feature students reading from the Declaration of Independence in multiple languages. Coordinators: Sofie Stounberg and Dr. Jen Parrack (School of Language and Literature)

Monday, February 9

  • 12-2 pm – Artists in Residence ShoutHouse – Public Event: UCA Wind Ensemble Open Rehearsal (Department of Music), Concert Hall, Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts 
  • 3-4 pm – Artists in Residence: ShoutHouse – Student Event: Pop-up Concerts around Campus (Department of Music), Surprise Locations!
  • 4-5 pm – Student Q&A with Artist in Residence Renée Elise Goldsberry, hosted by Professor Lauren Carlton (Department of Film, Theatre, and Creative Writing), James M. Bridges Black Box Theatre, Windgate Center for the Fine and Performing Arts
  • 5:00 pm – Public Event: Prelude Performance of Patriotic Music by Pinnacle Brass (Department of Music), Reynolds Performance Hall Lobby

  • 6:00 pm – Public Film Screening: Hamilton with Talk Back by Renée Elise Goldsberry, Reynolds Performance Hall

This event is a collaboration with the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and Public Appearances)

Tickets are $28.75 for the general public at http://uca.edu/publicappearances/tickets/. UCA students can receive up to two free tickets by visiting the box office at Reynolds Performance Hall or the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts. A UCA Bear Card is required.

Featuring:

  • Reading of the Declaration of Independence by President Houston Davis and special semiquincentennial announcement
  • On View: America 250 Selfie Throne by Artist in Residence Kat Wilson
  • On View: Ancestral Spirits by Artist in Residence Alice Aida Ayers
  • Fife and Drum Performance by Katie McManus (percussion) and Kami Curtis (piccolo)
  • Performance of 18th-century American music, by Dr. Ben Thorburn (harpsichord and vocals), Clara Spivey (flute), Mary Ruth Kitchens (vocals), and the UCA Collegium Singers (Department of Music)
  • Independence Day Wish for America Tree
  • Interactive 250 Cabinets, created by first-year art students, invite you to handle, reveal, and reflect on the American experiment. Coordinated by Professor Leslie Macklin (Department of Art and Design), Fireplace Room, McCastlain Hall.
  • Special birthday cake and punch
