Each year, an Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) professional is brought to the UCA College of Business for class visits, campus-wide lectures, panel discussions, meetings with student organizations such as Gamma Iota Sigma, and meals with faculty and other industry and community professionals. This is a valuable opportunity to allow students to network and learn from the visiting Risk Manager.
To bring the Risk Manager to campus this year, the University of Central Arkansas Insurance and Risk Management program was awarded a grant from the Spencer Educational Foundation, supporting a key Experiential Learning opportunity for students. The Spencer Foundation has supported the Risk Manager on Campus program for years, most recently bringing Robin Roeder in 2024, Bailey Pipkin in 2023, and Lance Ewing in 2022.
On April 3, 2025 we were thrilled to welcome Carey Bond, Head of US Claims for Lloyd’s, to share his experience with UCA students, faculty, and the community.
Bond works in conjunction with the London Claims Team to support the Lloyds strategy and is based in Atlanta, Georgia. His responsibilities cover claims in the US, Canada and Latin America. He has a strong background in leading operational improvements and brings over 30 years of claims management experience with organizations such as One Beacon, Canal Insurance, Nationwide and Travelers.
Carey Bond is a member of the Advisory Board of Claims Litigation Management (CLM) and a member of the Diversity Committee. He also serves on the Diversity Foundation Board of Directors with the Wholesale and Surplus Insurance Association (WSIA). He is a past President of the Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals (AAIP) (the Atlanta chapter of the National African American Insurance Association{NAAIA}).
Bond is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserves where he served in a variety of roles from Command to Advisory. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions in Iraq where he served as a senior advisor with the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team (CMATT). He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for service on the staff of the Commander International Security Assistance Force (COMISAF{Supreme Commander of All Forces}) Afghanistan. He also served as Equal Opportunity Advisor (EOA) for various senior commands. He attended the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute and was certified as an Equal Opportunity Mediator to the Department of Defense.
Bond holds a BS degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin, an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a Master’s degree in strategy and tactics from the US Army Command and General Staff College.

Roeder visited campus for two days. At the luncheon on Monday, April 15, we were joined by many students, faculty, and insurance professionals, including Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Alan McClain, who spoke a few words to highlight the significance of the IRM industry in Arkansas.
