Our Chemistry Departmental Seminar Series provides a platform for our students to stay abreast of potential career paths and opportunities within the sciences. In addition, hosting speakers enhances and broadens faculty awareness of new fields and can lead to collaborative endeavors.  Topics and speakers encompass a wide spectrum of science-based careers that include academia, industry, government, and K-12 education.  Our seminar series affords our students the chance to initiate vital networking contacts contributing to their professional development whether it be acceptance into post-graduate programs, securing employment, or increasing their general knowledge.

October 29, 2015, X-Period, Laney-Manion 102: Dr. Slaton Fry, UCA Chemistry Alumnus (Come early to have pizza with Dr. Fry! 12:00-1:00 in Laney-Manion 101)

Dr. Fry’s Bio:

After graduating from UCA in 1980, Slaton spent a short time with Phillips Petroleum and then returned to graduate school at the University of Arkansas and completed a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry under Dr. Norbert Pienta in 1985. He then worked for Halliburton Services and finally Eastman Chemical in Batesville, AR for 16 years before leaving to work for UAMS Arkansas BioVentures biotechnology incubator and to return to school for an MBA at UALR. He also worked for Safe Foods Corporation as the VP, Logistics and Operations. In 2006, Slaton returned to Batesville and worked for FutureFuel Chemical Co. (formerly Eastman) as the executive Director, Commercial Operations until 2014.  He and Diann now live in Baytown, Texas where Slaton works as the VP, Administration for Nippon Gohsei USA, a manufacturer of EVOH barrier polymers. He married Diann Curiel in 1984 and they have two children, Evan and Elise. Evan has attended UCA off and on since he graduated from high school. Elise has been accepted and has decided to attend Hendrix College in the fall of 2015.
