The Office of Education Abroad and Faculty Advisors in the School of Language and Literature Cultures help our language students work together to help you find the best study abroad program for your needs and interests. At UCA, you don’t need to have any language proficiency to study abroad for a summer or full semester, but studying in a place whose language you’re learning helps you gain proficiency faster and explore the culture more deeply.

You can study abroad for a summer for an intensive language-immersion program or for a semester. Our most popular programs are in Costa Rica (summer), West France (summer or semester) and Taiwan (summer).

How can I afford study abroad?

When you study with one of our partner institutions, you pay UCA tuition and can use all of your state and federal financial aid. On top of that, you’re also eligible for special scholarships that can mean you pay several thousand dollars less than studying for a semester in Conway, AR!

In a majority of instances, you’re actually paying less to study abroad than you are to be on campus. I actually pay for my tuition out of pocket, so I actually got a return [for my semester abroad]. Everything was covered by the scholarships.

We highly recommend you apply for the following scholarships in the semester before your program (fall for summer or spring; spring for fall or full year):

  • The UCA Education Abroad Scholarship
  • The Robert & Carol Adcock Study Abroad Scholarship
  • The Hatfield Scholarship (especially for France)

Check out the Office of Education Abroad’s current, comprehensive list of scholarships. Our students studying abroad for a semester can often receive several thousand dollars toward an immersive study abroad program!

But what about my degree program?

Over a summer, you can make up to 6 hours toward a language major or minor and during a summer you can make up to 15 hours toward a language major. Many partner schools also offer classes taught in English that can count in the UCA Core and in many UCA majors.
