UCA in Japan: Japanese Language Immersion

Program Description

One of UCA’s newest partner universities is Nanzan University located in Nagoya, Japan. Typically this partner offers an intensive Japanese language course during UCA’s Summer II term. Because our schools use the same textbook system, students will enjoy familiar structure while being taught by native instructors, in an immersive Japanese setting.

Outside of class, students are required to practice Japanese conversation with an assigned Japanese “buddy” or one of the university teaching assistants. Field trips and programs of cultural education are offered as well. Furthermore, as Nanzan University is a Jesuit institution, you may be able to participate in service projects while studying abroad.

Nagoya is located between Tokyo and Japan’s Kansai (Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto/Nara) region; for around $50, students can travel in 3-5 hours to any of those sites of major cultural and historical importance. Nagoya City itself is large enough to offer a variety of quintessentially Japanese experiences should students choose not to venture out.

Students will direct enroll in this program and pay the partner university. UCA Education Abroad will assist in credit transfer and other details, so students are required to register with Education Abroad for this program.

Please make an appointment with the Education Abroad Office to go over the application procedure.
