Dr. Gregory Church, tenor, has performed with orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States. He has appeared as tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Schubert’s Mass in G, Elijah by Mendelssohn, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Bach’s Magnificat, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, and Rossini’s Stabat mater, Serenade to Music by Vaughan Williams, and Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Saëns.

Opera roles to his credit include Jenik in The Bartered Bride, Alfredo in La Traviata, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Jean in Herodiade, and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. His musical theatre performances include Lun tha in The King and I, James in Shenandoah, Joseph in Andrew Lloyd-Weber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Buffalo Bill Cody in Annie Get Your Gun, Father Hollywood in Nunsense Jamboree, and Mr. Boddy in Clue the Musical, a musical adaptation of the classic board game.

Dr. Church has served as artistic director of Little Women by Allen Knee, and scenes from The Magic Flute by Mozart. His conducting credits include Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim, Messiah, Guys & Dolls, SouthPacific, and Bye, Bye Birdie. Also active as a recitalist, he has performed such works as Schumann’s Dichterliebe, and Britten’s Canticle I: My Beloved is mine and I am His, Canticle III: Still Falls the Rain, and Winter Words. Dr. Church has several world premieres to his credit, including A Song Cycle of Children’s Poems, written for him by composer Dr. Robert Tucker.

Dr. Church earned the Doctor of Musical Arts from Texas Tech University, where he studied with Professor Karl Dent. He received the Master of Church Music degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as a student of Dr. Mozelle Clark Sherman, where he was awarded the Jay W. Wilkey Vocal Artist of the Year award. He earned the Bachelor of Music from Wingate University, studying with Dr. John Blizzard and Professor Jane McCoy. He performed as opera apprentice with both Des Moines Metro Opera,and Knoxville Opera Company, and was two-time finalist in the Queens Opera Vocal Competition.
