Beginning Tuesday Jan 3, 2023, we will begin upgrading all campus-owned Windows 10 computer operating systems to Windows 10 release 21H2. The upgrades will be applied to all desktop and laptop computers that are connected using the wired network or connected using secure UCA wireless. If your Windows 10 computer is at release 22H2 you will not be downgraded. To verify your release version type “About” in the search bar in your bottom toolbar. Select “About your PC” and view the information in the highlighted area in the image below.
The upgrades have been broken down into five groups. There will be two weeks between groups. Upgrades after Jan 3 will be started between 11:00 PM on Friday and 5:00 AM Saturday. We ask that you leave your Windows PC powered on during the weekends beginning Jan 13, 2023. This will make the upgrade process much smoother.
The final upgrade group is scheduled on Feb 24, 2023. If your PC does not begin an upgrade on Jan 3, it eventually will be.
Laptop owners, who have their laptops at home will not be upgraded until the last group. It’s hoped that these laptops will be brought to campus before this group receives the upgrade. Devices brought back to campus and left powered on overnight and with a network cable plugged in, they will receive the update at that time according to the building that the laptop is located in. Laptops that are powered on and connected to the UCA Secure wireless will be upgraded in the 5th group (see below).
The update process should take no more than 4 hours to complete. That is starting from the time it begins downloading the update to the point you can log back into the computer should take no more than 4 hours. After logging in after the update the user will see “Hi. Welcome.” as it updates the user profile, adding up to 40 minutes for that initial login.
