When a student cancels their housing contract prior to the end of the term, they will be issued a $425 Contract Buyout Fee. The following reasons are administratively approved exemption requests: graduation, student teaching or academic internship, marriage, or military leave. All other reasons will be presented to the Exemption Committee for review once a month.
These students must complete the ‘Contract Buyout Exemption Request’ form with the appropriate uploaded documentation in order to be approved for the exemption. This must be submitted within 30 days of the student’s move out from on-campus housing.
Exemption criteria and required supporting documentation:
- Graduation – Requires a screenshot of Degree Works in MyUCA with Graduation Status as Pending/Awarded.
- Married and living with spouse – Requires Marriage License.
- Internship required toward degree completion – Requires internship award letter.
- Student Teaching – Requires student teaching location letter.
- Exchange Student Participant – Requires letter from UCA Study Abroad Department.
- Military Leave – Requires Military Orders.
- Other – Required typed letter of explanation addressed to the Exemption Committee
All other reasons for cancellation will be subject to the $425 Contract Buyout Fee.
Reasons that will not be approved are transferring to another university, financial reasons, or moved off campus.

Requesting an Exemption
Freshmen Students
Freshmen students are not eligible to request a Contract Buyout Fee exemption, as stated in the Housing Contract Agreement. Any freshmen student that cancels their housing prior to the end of the leasing term will be subject to the $425 Contract Buyout Fee.
Upperclassmen Students
Upperclassmen students may submit a Contract Buyout Exemption Request form by going to my.uca.edu in their MyHousing Portal and selecting the ‘Forms’ tab. Within the form, the student will be asked for their reasoning as to why they believe that they should be exempt from the Contract Buyout Fee, and may be asked to upload pertinent documentation within the form.
How to Request a Contract Buyout Exemption
To request to get the $425 Contract Buyout fee waived, please fill out the ”Contract Buyout Exemption Request’ form. This can be accessed by following these steps:
- Go to my.uca.edu
- Select the ‘MyHousing’ Portal
- Select the ‘Forms’ tab within the MyHousing Portal
- Complete the ‘Contract Buyout Exemption Request’ form and upload any requested documentation
