Greek Recruitment Information

Recruitment at UCA

The university has set forth a few minimum eligibility requirements before you can join a fraternity or sorority on campus.Policy on Recruitment/Membership Intake – ­Eligibility for participating in the recruitment or membership intake process is limited to students in good standing.

  • All potential new members must be enrolled as full-time students.
    • Full-time status is defined as 12 hours for undergraduate students.
  • Entering freshmen must have a minimum 2.5 high school grade point average on their high school transcript.
    • Any student who does not meet this requirement and enrolls in summer courses to meet the minimum GPA must complete 12 UCA hours to be considered a current student. Transitional courses do not count toward a student’s cumulative GPA and will not count toward the 12 hour requirement. An incoming student who completes less than 12 hours during the summer and does not meet the minimum high school GPA requirement will not be eligible for recruitment/intake.
  • Current UCA students must have at least a 2.5 UCA grade point average.
    • “Current UCA student” status is defined as having completed 12 UCA credit hours. Transitional courses do not count towards the 12 UCA hours completed.
  • Transfer students must have at least a 2.5 grade point average on all previous college course work. Transitional classes (also known as developmental courses) do not count toward this GPA requirement.
    • Any student who does not meet this requirement and enrolls in summer courses to meet the minimum GPA must complete 12 UCA hours to be considered a current student. Transitional courses do not count toward a student’s cumulative GPA and will not count toward the 12 hour requirement. An incoming student who completes less than 12 hours during the summer and does not meet the minimum GPA requirement will not be eligible for recruitment/intake.
  • Beyond this minimum standard established by the University, individual fraternity and sorority chapters and/or councils may have higher standards for eligibility. This information is available by visiting the Greek Life website, www.uca.edu/gogreek.
  • All fraternity and sorority new members will be required to attend a new member orientation.
    •  Panhellenic and  IFC new members will attend the new member orientation the semester of initiation. If a student accepts a bid after the new member orientation they will be required to attend the following semester.
    • NPHC, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. new  members will be expected to attend the new member orientation the semester immediately following initiation.

Recruitment Processes

Tnpccoahere are five National Panhellenic Conference sororities recognized in the Panhellenic Council: Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, Sigma Kappa, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. Panhellenic sorority recruitment is coordinated for the five Panhellenic sororities in August.  Panhellenic also allows “continuous open bidding” throughout the year for sororities which are not at the total allowable size. Panhellenic recruitment is restricted to students who are regularly matriculated students at UCA. For more specific information visit the Panhellenic website at uca.edu/panhellenic.

 

NPHClogoThere are 7 active organizations governed under the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) for historically African-American fraternities and sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Each of these organizations recruit through a “Membership Intake” process.  Membership Intake is conducted once per semester during the fall and/or spring semester for each organization. Individual chapters will determine if they will have membership intake in conjunction with their state, regional, or national organization. In addition to the University’s eligibility requirements, interested candidates must complete the following to be eligible for membership intake:

  • Must have completed at least twelve (12) UCA credit hours.
    • Transitional courses do not count towards the 12 hours.
  • Attend a Greek Information Night at least once per academic year prior to participating in membership intake.
    • Fall 2019 – September 10, 2019 at 5:00pm in the Ida Waldran Auditorium
  • Attend the Leadership Launch Conference once prior to participating in Membership Intake.
    • Fall 2019 – September 14, 2019

There are eight national fraternities currently recognized in the Interfraternity Council (IFC): Alpha Sigma Phi, Beta Upsilon Chi, Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Sigma Tau Gamma. Recruitment for IFC fraternities is coordinated for member organizations in September and January. Fraternities are also eligible to extend “open bids” throughout the academic year.
