Scott Meador, Associate Professor of Art, Digital
Scott Meador’s computer graphics specialty is animation for live events. So far this year he has worked on concert tours for Brad Paisley, Luke Combs, Chris Young, and Peter Frampton.
Some projects are collaborative where animation assets are used by other artists to create moments throughout a concert. This was the case for the Chris Young tour where Scott created a virtual wall and CY logos that allowed other artists to open and close and even disintegrate the wall and logos at different points during the concert.
Individual songs often have specific design briefs where an artist needs to design an animation that can illustrate the content of a song or its theme or mood. For Luke Combs’s “Beer Can,” Scott created animations of beer pouring out of a can in swirls to compliment the circular screen upstage of the band. For Brad Paisley’s “Then,” he animated a trip around the Earth, which was integrated with NASA spacecraft footage.
For Peter Frampton’s farewell tour, Scott was invited to create all of the imagery for Frampton’s rendition of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” The brief required recreating astronomers’ recent image of an actual black hole as a starting point. Scott included two closer views of a black hole, a trip through a wormhole, and finishing with stars that converge to form a photograph of Chris Cornell, Soundgarden’s former lead singer.
Jeff Young, Professor of Art, Art Education
Jeff Young will be facilitating a discussion at the Arkansas Art Educators Annual Fall Conference in Little Rock, November 6-8, 2019. Based on a ten-year longitudinal study of art teachers in Arkansas and Texas with colleagues Deborah Kuster, UCA Retired Professor, and Chris Bain, Art Education Professor at University of Texas, Young will present information about the study and guide conference participants in a discussion exploring why novice and experienced art teachers stay in the profession.
