Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a great resource to connect with outstanding upper class biology majors. Most importantly, it helps you create good weekly study habits in your class. SI is offered in several of our biology major Principles of Biology I and II (BIOL 1440 and BIOL 1441) courses. You will see how it is identified in the registration screen below:
Attributes: LD UCA Core Nat Sci-Life, Supplemental Instruction, Natural Sci & Math Course Fee, Natural Sci & Math Lab Fee
The SI Leaders are upper class biology majors who have excelled in their major. At these weekly sessions you can get assistance with understanding concepts and material in lecture and lab. Also, it allows you to network with other BIOL 1440 and 1441 students. SI Leaders typically talk about study habits and how to succeed as a biology major. Two in-person sessions and one on-line session are offered per week. The SI schedule will be provide by your instructor and it is also posted as a link on the SI webpage.
Since 2017, we have found that students who regularly attended SI sections earn a half to full letter grade higher than those students that do not attend.
Spring 2026 Supplementary Instruction is in LSC 104. You may attend the designated session for your class or you can also attend another session because all classes follow a similar sequence.
