Meet the Artist Joshua Reynolds

Artist Bio:
Conway artist, Joshua Reynolds, is currently in Alumni Artist in Residence program at the University of Central Arkansas. After graduating in 2014 with his B.S. in Applied Mathematics, he attended the Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas. Josh had a belonging for the studio and decided to leave law school in pursuit for a career as a professional artist.
During his BFA practicum and residency, Josh has done extensive experimentation with sculpting in concrete. He focuses primarily on the deformation of the human form and naturalistic subject matter. Having a strong background in mathematics, his thought process is highly analytical, organized, and detailed. He strives for detailed realism while maintaining a positive control of the material. Another application of his thought process is calculated movement; generally, curvilinear lines generate the flow with asymmetric balance. His experience in Iraq as a Scout/Recon Marine exposed the fragility of the human body and mind; trauma has a way to break someone down and then make them a stronger person over time. This ideology is represented with the deformation of the human form sculpted in concrete. A slight sense of chaos compliments his mathematical control. He strikes a balance between the control and chaos; rough compliments smooth, raw with the refined.
