The UCA clay club again attained NCECA (National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts) conference which was in Minneapolis, Minnesota this year…a mecca for artists and lovers of clay! A majority of the cost for the trip was funded with money made from the Clay Clubs annual pottery sale, an additional Valentines day sale and RSO funding. The trip offered students a chance to view more than a hundred gallery exhibitions, choose from more than a hundred educational lectures on process, theory, pedagogy, technology, and professional practices, observe demonstrations by artists, shop from vendors selling everything from trimming tools to a 3-D clay printers, have lots of networking opportunities and attend performances and parties to boot! This semester the club has already taken a trip up to Crystal Bridges Museum for American Art and to visit the graduate program at the University of Arkansas. Later in the semester the students will have an exhibition exchange where our students will show their best work in the students gallery up at U of A and the U of A students will exhibit their work here at UCA. Plans are in the works for Clay Club activities at Conway Arts Fest our annual sale in November the Soup Bowl Benefit in the Spring and more. Lots happening in Clay Club! If you have experience working in clay we would love for you to get involved! We are a registered RSO and can be found on that website or simply contact Professor Liz Smith about how to attend meetings!
