Susan M. Sobel, Ph.D., Director of the Counseling Center, joined the UCA Counseling Center in 2012. She received her undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1990 and her doctorate from the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Wyoming in 1996. She also obtained an Ed.S. in School Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2000. Dr. Sobel has worked as a licensed psychologist in outpatient/community mental health, private practice, and school-based settings that have spanned several U.S. states and New Zealand. Her therapeutic style involves an integrated approach, combining family systems, solution-focused and cognitive behavioral theories, to facilitate development of strengths and skills to manage life. While Dr. Sobel has worked with a wide variety of clients and issues, she has a particular interest in and experience with anxiety, family violence, sexual assault and abuse, and the impact of trauma on development and relationships.
