Admission Guidelines

The Department of Art does not require a portfolio review for incoming freshmen.  Students declaring art as their major should begin taking art courses as listed on the Program Completion Plans.

All students seeking the BFA in Studio Art and the BA in Art with Fine Art or Art Education emphases must participate in the Sophomore Major Advancement Interview (SMAI) which is conducted in the fall of each year.  Students planning to participate in the SMAI should enroll in Art 2140 Portfolio I.  See Program Completion Plans for details.

For more information about attending UCA, see the Future Students section of the UCA website.

Transfer Students

Transfer students who have taken art courses at other accredited institutions must present a portfolio for faculty review in order to receive transfer course credit.  Portfolios may consist of actual work or be submitted on CD and should be turned in to the main art office, McAlister 101, with a memo to the chair designating for which UCA courses credit is being sought.  Please read “Departmental Advancement Requirements” in the Undergraduate Bulletin for details on minimum number of hours required.
