UCA Piano Camp (June 27, 2022 – July 1, 2022)

Dear Parents and Teachers,
We are so glad to have your student attend our UCA Piano Camp classes!  We will meet in Snow Fine Arts room 134 the week of June 27-July 1.

9:00 – 9:45 – Ages 4-5 Ready to Play class

This class will explore the piano, rhythm notation, steady beat experience, ear training, proper piano technique, and the most fun – play some beginning piano pieces! We will use the book: Music for Little Mozarts, Lesson book level 1.  It is published by Alfred, and is available online Amazon.  The book will give us some structure and also an excellent place for them to begin and continue their piano study!  The class is taught by Mrs. Christine Franklin and assisted by Mrs. Elizabeth Schwarz.

10:00 – 10:45 – Ages 6-8 Ready to Play class

This class will explore the piano, rhythm notation, steady beat experiences, ear training, proper piano technique and pre-reading pieces.  The students will use the book PIano Adventures, Lesson book, Primer level by Nancy and Randall Faber, published by Hal Leonard.  This is a popular book for beginning students and will be a great choice for them to continue their piano studies.  The class is taught by Mrs. Terrie Shires, and assisted by Mrs. Franklin and Mrs. Schwarz.

11:00 – 11:45 – Ages 12-18 Beginning Jazz Class

This class is designed for students who have already taken a couple years of piano, have some chord knowledge, and can play with both hands.  The students will learn more about chords, learn how to improvise with simple riffs and increase their creativity.  The class is taught by Mrs. Julia Buckingham and assisted by Mrs. Franklin.
Important things to know:
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early on Monday, June 27 so we can properly greet you and your child and help them to get comfortable in the room.
  • There is a 15 student class size limit on each class.  There will be at least 2 teachers for each group.
  • Each student should purchase their own book before June 27 – bring your book every day!
  • Each student should get a drink and use the bathroom before class begins so they will not have to leave class.
  • Parents are welcome to stay in the building, but there is not room in the classroom to stay and observe.
  • Be sure you fill out the online registration and mail in your tuition by June 20.
  • Friday, July1 will be Show and Tell day!  We will put on a mini-recital to show the parents what we have learned.
  • We highly recommend that your student continue his/her piano studies in the fall.  We can recommend qualified teachers for you!
