Deferred Recruitment at UCA
The University of Central Arkansas Greek community operates under a “deferred recruitment” system. Deferred recruitment has been practiced at UCA since the spring of 2000. Since implementation, the average age and GPA of most groups have increased; students are more acclimated to college before joining; and parents are more satisfied with the students' experience.
The philosophy of the University is that students who demonstrate that they can achieve a 2.3 GPA and complete 12 college credit hours (excluding concurrent and intermediate courses) hours are adequately prepared for the benefits and challenges of Greek Life. If these requirements are met, then an individual may be eligible to receive a bid from a fraternity or sorority. Although groups may set higher standards, these are the minimum University requirements. Please be certain to check with an organization about their specific eligibility requirements.
With the aforementioned deferred recruitment requirements in place, IFC and Panhellenic Formal Recruitment is held each spring semester. With Formal Recruitment being held each spring semester, Greek organizations typically hand out “open bids” to eligible individuals during the fall semesters. Sororities and fraternities will advertise their intentions to give out open bids through interest meetings advertised on campus or at Go Greek Information Night.
NPHC intake varies and those interested should attend Go Greek Information Night or check the NPHC web page for more information.
