Receiving accommodations through OARS does not impact your ability to participate in your sport. We would like to focus on your academic success by approving accommodations that will assist you. It is important that you notify your athletic trainer and/or your head coach as soon as you are experiencing concussion symptoms. They can assist you in applying for OARS services. To apply, go to www.uca.edu/oars, click on OARS Student Registration and complete the short application and hit submit. We will be in touch with you to schedule a meeting. These meetings can be held in person or through Zoom.
If you are medically unable to come to our office or do a Zoom meeting, we will meet you in either your residence hall lobby or apartment office. OARS will obtain medical documentation from your athletic trainer or health care provider.
Using accommodations to help you continue to be academically successful is your choice.
Some possible accommodations may include:
- Courtesy Cart Services
- Extra Testing Time
- Scribe
- Reader
- Note taking assistance
Once you are approved for accommodations, instructors are only notified of your approved accommodations and not your diagnosis. The student will be approved for temporary accommodations. At the end of the semester, we will discuss your future needs. If you require the approved accommodations past the end of the semester, we will need updated documentation and you will be permanently approved.
OARS will notify your Athletic Academic Advisor that you are receiving accommodations so we as a team can work with faculty to assist you in your academic and athletic journey.
