The College of Education Bears EmpowerED Initiative is the COE’s 1:1 iPad initiative and represents our effort to prepare teacher candidates for the evolving realities of today’s K-12 classrooms and the increasing ubiquity of technology in K-12 students’ lives. Teacher candidates in our Bears EmpowerED Initiative courses consistently rate their confidence in their ability to meet the ISTE Standards for Educators higher than students not enrolled in 1:1 iPad courses.
Faculty who teach Bears EmpowerED Initiative courses are encouraged to actively incorporate teacher candidates’ use of their iPads for engaging, student-centered, hands-on instruction as much as possible throughout the course. Modeling technology integration across methods courses is vital to our teacher preparation efforts and aligns with our accreditation standards.

The iPad has revolutionized access to information with its portability, countless applications, accessibility features, and ease of use. In this course, you will actively engage in learning about pedagogy and educational technology using the iPad. Participants will come away from this course with instructional strategies, ideas, and tools that can be implemented immediately.
