COMMUNICATION-Communication combines theory and practical application in the areas of organizational, interpersonal, public communication and rhetorical studies.
JOURNALISM-Journalism focuses on print, broadcast and online media guided by faculty with professional experience in the newspaper, magazine, television and online media industries.
PUBLIC RELATIONS-Public relations emphasizes strategic research, planning, execution and evaluation of communication programs for companies, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and public figures.
WRITING-Writing emphasizes flexible strategies for effective and ethical communication tailored for different audiences and purposes, providing opportunities for students to write for real-world audiences through client-based projects and internships.

Degrees

The School of Communication offers degree programs in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Professional Writing and Writing Studies.

UCA students can earn a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in the disciplines of Communication, Journalism, and Public Relations. UCA students can earn a Bachelor of Arts in the disciplines Professional Writing and Writing Studies.

These degrees require completion of 120 hours including 1) the general education component, 2) specific degree requirements, and 3) a major, and 4) a minor as arranged by the student’s minor advisor.

The School of Communication offers minors in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Professional Writing and Writing Studies, . UCA students can earn a minor in these areas by completing 21 hours of required credits for Communication or Public Relations, 26 hours for Journalism, or 24 hours for Professional Writing or Writing Studies.
