Volunteers Needed in September to Assist with Public Art Installation on UCA’s Campus
Patrick Dougherty, an internationally-renowned sculptor, is coming to UCA’s Baum Gallery of Fine Art as a visiting artist September 2-21, 2014. He will design and construct a unique, large-scale sculpture formed of natural materials gathered from the local landscape, mainly formed of interwoven sticks and pliable saplings. Dougherty’s sculptural work is community-interactive from process to completion. He relies on groups of volunteers to assist him with gathering materials and the entire construction process. The largest numbers of volunteers will be needed on the gathering days, September 2-4, from 8 am to 5 pm, but volunteers will be needed throughout his residency.
His collaborative creation will remain on site outdoors, near the Baum Gallery (in front of McCastlain Hall) for a period of 2-3 years. The unveiling of the completed sculpture will occur on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 am in front of the Baum Gallery.
