The University of Central Arkansas’s Baum Gallery hosted a new exhibition Painting from January 27 – February 17, 2022. This exhibition was curated by Brian Young, director, Baum Gallery with assistance from Sandra Luckett, associate professor in the department of Art & Design, UCA.
The exhibition included the following artists: Matt Klos, Maryland; Lisa Krannichfeld, Little Rock; Joan Waltemath, New York City, NY; Wade Hampton; Ryan Browning, Richmond, VA; Tim Stone, Wichita, KS; Dean Mitchell, New Orleans; and Tessa Davidson, Searcy, AR.
Painting was an exhibition meant to show all the possibilities through this most traditional of media. In this show, there were artists who work purely abstract and those who work realistically with the figure. By selecting a range of painters, students were exposed to the breadth of contemporary painting. Our audience saw irony, experiences, and contemporary issues through the lenses of abstraction, portraits landscapes, and works in between. It should also be noted that every artist in this exhibition makes their living as a painter. This is a point of emphasis to inspire our students. It reminds them that they can sustain themselves in the creative field.” said Brian Young.
For this exhibition, the Baum Gallery received support from the UCA College of Fine Arts and Communication (CFAC), the Art Department of UCA, and the Conway Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Baum is grateful to the artists and private lenders including Ada Gallery, Richmond, VA; Hearne Fine Art; Dr. Archie Hearne III and Ms. Garbo Hearne; Grimaldis Gallery, Baltimore, MD; Philip Mayeaux and Joe Nichols; M2 Gallery; and Reuben Saunders Gallery, Wichita, KS.
