The UCA Art Education Club is off to a great start for the fall 2021 semester! On Tuesday, August 31st at 6:00 pm we held our official RSO interest group meeting at the amphitheater in front of the UCA Student Center. To kick the year off, Dr. Harlow and Dr. Young, club advisors, helped organize a picnic for the attendees. 12 art education students attended the picnic and meeting. This was a great turn out!

The first order of business was electing officers for the 2021-2022 school year. The following students were elected as new officers: Shelby Bennett, President; Victoria Neal, President-Elect; Delana Lattimore, Event Chairman; Emily Guthro, Secretary; Brandy Lucas, Social Media Chair; and Rachel Etter, Treasurer. Congratulations and welcome aboard to all the new officers!

The next order of business was to discuss upcoming events important to the club and its members. This was where the advisors had their time to shine. Dr. Harlow discussed exploring becoming a registered National Art Education Association Pre-Service Student Chapter, the upcoming Arkansas Art Educators Fall Conference being held in Little Rock the first weekend of November, possibly attending the NAEA Convention in New York in March of 2022, and briefly touched upon her work on the NAEA National Board of Directors. Dr. Young then mentioned some activities that Art Education Club has done in the past. He discussed the annual “Dinner with an Art Teacher” event where the club members invite an art teacher or professional from Arkansas to come and eat dinner with the club while they talk about their jobs and experiences. He encouraged students to get involved in events and to always be thinking about updating their resumes with events and activities that they participate in. The last thing on the agenda was brainstorming initiatives that the club could host or participate in this year. There was interest in exploring fundraising ideas to assist members in attending the AAE Fall Conference and the NAEA National Convention. The Art Ed Club is cooking up some creative ideas for the school year!
