Lauren Lee and Taylor Lehmann

Last semester was a great way to start off the year for the Art Education Club! We were busy, with Dinner with an Art Teacher, Dr. Kuster’s outstanding teacher workshop, and going to the Arkansas Art Educators Conference. Oh, and let’s not forget the Art Education Christmas Party where the fashionable Taylor Lehmann won Best Tacky Christmas Sweater!

Dinner with an Art Teacher

An evening of dinner and learning! Each semester we invite one or two art teachers to come to a potluck where afterward they give a short lecture over a subject that the students in the Art Education program are thrilled to learn more about. This semester, the Art Education Club is inviting the marvelous Mary Ann Elkin from Benton School District. She will be preparing a lecture on the subject of Lesson Modifications in the Classroom. The potluck theme will be Italian! Mmmmmm……pasta. Join our emailing list and GroupMe to learn more about dates, location and the potluck sign-up list!

Community Service

This spring we will be working on collecting items for Conway High School’s classroom pantry. The Certain Little Free Class Pantry supplies students at Conway High who are in need of food, clothing, and personal hygiene products and was started by the lovely Crystal Certain, art teacher at Conway High.

“Our mission is to help alleviate food insecurity in the student population at Conway High School. All students are welcome in the pantry without questions which helps remove the stigma that often surrounds charity. We currently average between 150 and 325 pantry visits per day, our numbers have more than doubled since the beginning of this project. The pantry relies solely on donations from students, teachers, and our community. Most importantly our kids know there are people in and beyond their school family that care about them and that alone can make a positive impact on a child’s life.”

Things that are always in need:

  • Pop-Tarts
  • Granola Bars
  • Cereal Bars
  • Fruit Cups
  • Cheeze Its
  • Cup Noodles
  • Cheese Crackers
  • Apple Sauce
  • Hygiene Products

The Art Education Club will be setting up donation boxes soon for all who can donate.
