Community Partners

Community partners are vital to UCA’s Service-Learning Program and co-curricular volunteer opportunities for students. The following organizations have worked with UCA faculty and students in the past and/or expressed interest in partnering with UCA. Information on organizations’ current needs, where available, is provided below. Arc Arkansas

Arkansas Arts Center

  • Volunteer Opportunities: The Arkansas Arts Center accepts applications for volunteers for administrative work, children’s theater ushers, exhibitions, and many other roles. If you don’t see what you are looking for, submit a proposal!

Bethlehem House

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help with administrative work, children’s activities on Wednesday nights, serving meals, and teaching courses such as computer skills, parenting, resume building, and healthy eating
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Creating a new promotional film, creating a social media/marketing campaign, teaching courses, gardening, or starting a social enterprise

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board 

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Community Advocates for Bicycling community bike repair 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 2-5 and 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays from 5-7
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Assessing UCA’s campus for Bike Friendly University status with the League of American Bicyclists, Bicycle Level of Service (BLOS) and Pedestrian Level of Service (PLOS) data analysis share information from Conway Advocates for Bicycling (Wed. volunteer opportunity every week)

Children’s Advocacy Alliance of North Central Arkansas

Choosing to Excel

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Mentors are needed to encourage students to excel in academics and behavior! Mentors should be able to attend a weekly one-on-one meeting at a local school with a community adult volunteer and a student. For more information, see the Choosing to Excel Flyer!

City of Hope Outreach

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for events throughout the year, including the UNSEEN Homeless Campaign (March), Community Carnival (August), Thanksgiving Banquet (November), and Christmas Store (December)
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Community gardens (composting, irrigation), education (curriculum development for math and reading, creating games, writing books with authentic context), creation of a database of volunteers and donors

Classy Lady Awareness Foundation

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for the annual expo on October 17, 2015 at Harding University to assist with registration, ushering, and talking with high school young women with questions about college
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Mentoring young women, leading workshops on career readiness, social media promotion, entrepreneurship, marketing, and other life and career skills topics

Community Action Program for Central Arkansas (CAPCA)

Community Connections 

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Assistance with 8-10 week educational programs for children with special needs (soccer, football, martial arts, theater, music, art, and other areas)– see the Fall Program Flyer for more information!
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Leading or assisting with programs; marketing, PR, and volunteer management

Conway Adult Education Program

Conway Alliance for the Arts

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for the annual ArtsFest September 26-October 3, 2015– sign up online!
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Event planning, creating flyers, participating in ArtsFest art marketplace

Conway Cradle Care

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help with childcare and act as mentors for teen parents
  • Service-Learning Opportunities: Planning a pregnancy prevention campaign and developing online pregnancy prevention resources for teens; lunch menu development and nutrition education materials for parents
  • Students Wanted: Family and consumer sciences, nutrition, education, public relations, marketing, graphic design, web design

Conway Locally Grown

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to inventory locally produced food items from 2-4 pm on Fridays, then fill customer orders from 4-6 pm.
  • Students Wanted: Anthropology, sociology, environmental science, gardening, or anyone who is personable and enjoys interacting with their neighbors!

Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to interact with patients and provide customer service
  • Students Wanted: Any courses relevant to healthcare, direct care, or administration

Equestrian Zone

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are always needed to serve as sidewalkers and horse leaders for riders in the program, Monday-Thursday 12-6 pm in Russellville, AR; Equestrian zone serves 60 patients a week from a 6-county area. Volunteers work directly with therapy patients and observe therapy sessions, and no experience with horses is needed! Group service opportunities are also available for cleanup or work on special projects, such as the sensory trail.
  • Students Wanted: Occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation, special education, psychology, and anyone else with ideas for ways to contribute their skills

Faulkner County Day School – Work Force

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to assist with scheduled activities and events or to offer new activities or classes, and to help launch the new FCDS jewelry store and store website. See OrgSync for several events in need of volunteers!
  • Students Wanted: Art, music, dance, theater, sign language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, business, design, and anyone interested in helping out!

Faulkner County Juvenile Court

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: The needs of court-involved youth in Faulkner County far exceed the available resources of the court and staff, so your help as a volunteer is needed. Risk factors for the young people who come through the Faulkner County courts include: poor academic achievement; truancy; lack of positive peer influence; drug use; teen pregnancy and/or teen parenting; little or no school or community involvement; exposure to violence in the home or neighborhood. You can help by tutoring, being a volunteer probation officer, leading a court girl scout troop, teaching a life skills class, becoming a drug court advocate, or leading a book club discussion.
  • Students Wanted: Political science, sociology, math, science, English, writing, education, and anyone interested in the criminal justice system or youth

Faulkner County Library

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for the ArtsFest juried art show on September 20th, Author Fair on September 26th, and Tales from the South on September 29th, as well as ComiCon-way on November 13th at the Faulkner County Library and November 14th and 15th at the Conway Expo center.   • Service-Learning Opportunities: Faculty and students from any discipline are invited to use the library as a site for hosting information fairs, performances, classes for the public, and any other community event.

Faulkner County Senior Wellness and Activity Center

Faulkner County Urban Farm Project

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: The Faulkner County Urban Farm Project can work with students or classes to offer nutritional programming in conjunction with the Faulkner County Library, Bethlehem House, women’s shelter, and other nonprofits. General volunteers are always needed for workdays every Thursday and Sunday at 5:00 pm (other workdays can be scheduled as needed by contacting faulknercountyurbanfarmproject@gmail.com.
  • Students Wanted: family and consumer sciences, dietetics, or anyone interested in nutrition, cooking, or gardening

Faulkner County Museum

Gentiva Hospice

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to provide direct care through companionship, reading, talking, writing down memories, or running errands for hospice patients; volunteers may also serve indirectly through filing, phone calls, and other office tasks. An application is required and volunteers must be able to make a 15 minute minimum commitment once a week.

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to provide after-school common core math tutoring, 6-week classes on just about any topic to excite young minds, guest presentations, and help with daily administrative tasks.   • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to teach life skills such as cooking, computer skills, and self-advocacy to adults with special needs.

International Public Debate Association

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help host high school and college debate tournaments on UCA’s campus. Volunteers may be needed to serve as judges and event staff. Contact Anthony McMullen at amcmullen@uca.edu if you are interested in getting involved.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for the One Walk on Saturday, October 3 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock to help run different stations such as Kids Korner, Food Tent, and T-shirt Tent. See the JDRF Save the Date for more information. Volunteers are also needed for the 2015 JDRF Imagine Gala on Saturday, April 9 at the Statehouse Convention Center.

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for after-school clubs that meet from 3:15-4:05 pm Monday-Friday

Literacy Action of Central Arkansas

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to serve as English as a Second Language tutors and Adult Basic Literacy tutors, as well as to translate materials into Spanish and Chinese, create advertising and promotional materials, to work on student stories, classroom materials, and curriculum development, and to provide childcare during literacy classes.

Make-A-Wish Mid-South

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to become Wish Granters (work directly with our wish kids and families). These volunteers are the liaison between our office staff and the wish families. They help the wish child determine their wish, assist with paperwork and get to plan a wish reveal towards the end of the wish telling the child that their one true wish is coming true! This is a continuous volunteer opportunity open to anyone over the age of 18 years old. We also have our Heart-Filled Wish-A-Thon in February each year where we can always utilize groups of volunteers/students.   • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Volunteers and interns are needed to work with programs related to rehabilitation, poverty, and homelessness. Extended volunteer opportunities include researching social services in Conway and Central Arkansas, planning an event to convene social service providers, coordinate food drives and cold weather supply drives, and serve in a driver pool for clients who need transportation to medical appointments and job interviews. National Resource Conservation Service

Ronald McDonald House Charities

  • Volunteer/Service-Learning Opportunities: Groups of volunteers are needed to fix supper and plan special events or games for residents (especially between 4-6 pm); individual volunteers are also needed to staff the front desk, check in families, give tours, and welcome residents to Little Rock. Volunteers are also needed for events such as the Golf Tournament in September, Day of Change in October, and Chocolate Fantasy Ball in February.

UCA Bear Essentials Food Pantry

  • Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to staff the food pantry and assist with packaging food bags. Food pantry hours are every Wednesday 11-1. Register on OrgSync to volunteer!

UCA ROTC
