Counseling Psychology program receives APA accreditation

Our Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology program is now accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA)! Accreditation is for 5 years.
Congratulations to Dr. Bihm, the Counseling Psychology Committee, the entire Psychology and Counseling faculty, and the doctoral students. It was truly a collaborative effort.

Recognition for Drs. Bramlett and Murphy

In a recent analysis of school psychology research published in School Psychology Quarterly,  Liu and Oakland (2016) found that an article by UCA professors Dr. Ron Bramlett and Dr. John Murphy was the 17th most cited article in the history of school psychology publications (1907-2014).

The citation for their article is:
Bramlett, RK; Murphy, JJ; Johnson, J; Wallingsford, L; Hall, JD. (2002). Contemporary practices in school psychology: A national survey of roles and referral problems. Psychology in The Schools.

Outstanding Psychology Student Award

Congratulations to Ivana Ilic for receiving this year’s Richard Scott Outstanding Psychology Student Award. Ivana received $750 and her name on a department plaque.

Psychology Student Publishes Research Article

Amy Hufstedler, now a Counseling Psychology doctoral student, just had a paper accepted (co-authored with Dr. Ken Sobel) in the Journal of Psychological Inquiry. This was a project completed while she was an undergraduate psychology major at UCA. Congratulations to Amy and Dr. Sobel!

“Counseling for Prevention and Wellness” will be presented by Dr. Robert Conyne on Firday, Apr 15, 9-12 in MAS 103.

Students Receive Psi Chi Grants

Lindsay Hobson received a $1,500 Psi Chi Undergraduate Research grant for her project titled “Memory for Missing Parts of Witnessed Events”.
Tyler Ramsey was also awarded a 2015-16 Spring Undergraduate Research Grant for $370 from Psi Chi. His project is titled “Pornography’s Effect on Relationship Commitment and the Reward System.”
Seven students (Lauren Brown, Savannah Cavender, Christina Clark, Emily Hahn, Lindsay Hobson, Sarah Lindeman, and Tiffany Wierzbicki) were selected to receive $370 in travel funding from Psi Chi for the upcoming SWPA conference.
That’s just over $4,000 in support from Psi Chi for our student research. Congrats to all!

Finalists announced for Annual Outstanding Psychology Student Award

Congratulations to three undergraduate PSYC majors for being the finalists for this year’s Richard Scott Outstanding Psychology Student Award. All three will win cash awards and the winner will be announced in April. The finalists are Ivana Ilic, Rebecca Stallmann, and Kelli Wierzbicki. Congrats to all three.
