Accommodating Students with Disabilities

All faculty should provide students with a syllabus statement, and are responsible for knowing and adhering to UCA policies for accommodating students with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Academic accommodations for each student are determined by the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) on an individual basis, with input from qualified professionals. Accommodations are intended to level the playing field for students with disabilities, while maintaining the academic integrity and standards set by the university.

The Office of Accessibility Resources and Services is available to provide the college faculty with clear, practical information about teaching students with disabilities. We can provide you with information about disability laws, an explanation of your rights and responsibilities as faculty, the types of services and accommodations available at UCA, the policies and procedures that students must follow in order to receive accommodations, as well as strategies for teaching students with particular disabilities. We are also available to provide consultation to individuals and presentations to departments for Universal Design in Education, which is an approach to creating an inclusive classroom environment that meets the needs of students with diverse learning styles.
