ASCEND is a program at UCA for students with autism and other neurodivergences to connect with one another in their mutual goals of a successful and enjoyable college experience. Our ASCEND program includes one-on-one support and coaching from a dedicated faculty coordinator, connections to peer networks and support, and programming for student success tailored to your needs. These services are offered to all ASCEND students regardless of classification.
The ASCEND program also includes residential components in RISE@Hughes living learning community. These include sensory-friendly facilities, a community board that will provide reminders, tips, and tricks to being successful in your college experience, and the opportunity to be matched with a roommate also participating in ASCEND. These services are offered to incoming freshmen ASCEND students only, as RISE@Hughes is a freshmen living learning community.
Please note that housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis and housing in Hughes Hall may not be guaranteed to everyone interested in ASCEND. Therefore, we recommend that you follow the instructions below under How to Apply by January 31st in the year you apply to UCA to ensure availability of housing. There is also no additional fee for participation in ASCEND beyond standard housing costs.
