Program Description

This program offers students an enriching experience based at the Perrotis College campus in Thessaloniki, Greece. Known for its rich history and vibrant culture, Thessaloniki serves as the perfect base for exploring both ancient and modern Greece. Students will enjoy city tours, relax on beautiful beaches, and visit local wineries and vineyards to experience the region’s traditions firsthand. A sailing trip around the Aegean Sea and a visit to Athens to explore iconic landmarks like the Acropolis will further enhance their understanding of Greece’s cultural heritage. Adventurers can look forward to hiking Mount Olympus and touring the breathtaking monasteries of Meteora. In addition to these cultural excursions, the program offers academic opportunities through meetings with local businesses and tours of hospitals, providing insights into Greece’s business and healthcare sectors. With a perfect blend of education and exploration, this program promises an unforgettable journey through one of Europe’s most historically and culturally rich destinations.

NOTE: Enrollment is limited to 30 participants.

Health and Safety

Students registering for programs should carefully read through all health and safety information provided during the application process. In addition, students should honestly complete the ‘Health and Safety Form’ so that any health related concerns may be adequately accommodated on study abroad programs.

Participants will be enrolled in comprehensive international insurance for the duration of programming. It is the student’s responsibility to extend insurance cover if they stay abroad beyond UCA’s planned program dates. For information about international insurance coverage: https://uca.edu/globalstudy/health-and-safety/

Students must attend one health and safety meeting during the spring semester. Meeting dates will be announced after the application deadlines.

Dr. Stacy Harris serves as an Associate Professor in the Nursing Department at the University of Central Arkansas. She has been a registered nurse since 1992 and an adult nurse practitioner since 1998. Her main patient care areas are cardiovascular disease and adult health. As far as international travel, she has been to various Caribbean islands, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, and China. She went with another UCA faculty on the China Study Abroad trip and found it fascinating. On that trip, they saw the different components of their healthcare system and how their culture impacts their health and well-being. That experience helped me developed this trip for students interested in health professions. She believes an immersive experience in Greek culture and the Mediterranean lifestyle will help students understand how lifestyle and culture impact ones health.

Courses offered by Dr. Harris:

  • HBST 1377 Education Abroad Seminar (LD Core-World Diversity)
