Traveling abroad doesn’t have to be confusing if you know the right things before you go. The Department of State provides information on requirements for Americans traveling abroad.
Each country differs in its precise requirements for obtaining a student visa, but all students must have a valid passport before applying for the appropriate visa. Students participating in Semester Exchange programs will apply directly to the respective consulate to acquire a student visa and in some cases, the Education Abroad Office will assist in applying for the visa.
On the Department of State’s travel information site, you will find useful information for any country you may be visiting, like the location of U.S. embassies/consulates, visa requirements, crime and security information, health related information and advisories, and insights on local laws that may differ from the U.S. This is a good place to start learning about where you are going.
