Education Abroad Credit

UCA Credit STEP-BY-STEP

Prior to Departure for Exchange

  • Students will complete a UCA Education Abroad Course Approval Form
  • This form is to be signed by the department chair to determine UCA and partner institution course equivalences.
  • If you’re looking to receive UCA CORE credit for your courses abroad, check this link for lower division and this link for upper division to learn more.
  • Although academic credit earned in a UCA approved Education Abroad program will transfer to the UCA record on a credit or no credit basis, students should understand the following:                                    Students may need to maintain a minimum number of credit hours for any scholarships they receive (15 hours required for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship)                                                    Students planning to attend graduate school should understand that they may be asked to provide an official transcript from the international university showing actual grades earned

While Abroad

  • After you arrive abroad and have registered for classes, send a copy of your final schedule to the UCA Education Abroad Office.
  • If you drop below the hours you are currently registered for with UCA, please contact our office immediately to request changes in your UCA course registration.
  • If you need to make any changes to your original course approval form, contact the UCA department chair to get course approvals in writing and send those approvals to the Education Abroad Office.
  • Students must pass each course to receive credit (CR). All courses taken abroad must be accounted for on the UCA transcript.

Upon Return from Exchange

  • If the host institution provided a copy of the official transcript, please send the transcript to the UCA Education Abroad Office. Otherwise the office staff will contact the exchange student once we have received the original transcript from the host institution.
  • The returning student will meet with the Education Abroad Director to review Course Approval Form(s) and make any necessary changes.
  • The returning student will meet with the department chair to have post-approval signatures recorded on the course approval form. This form must be returned to the Education Abroad Office. Only passing work receives credit (CR). If a student fails a class abroad, no credit (NC) will be reflected for the course on the UCA transcript.
  • The Education Abroad Office will forward a memo to the UCA Office of the Registrar along with the official transcript from the partner university to enable final recording of UCA credit which will be noted as credit/no credit. Grades that students earn abroad will not count towards their institutional nor overall GPA.
  • The student has the responsibility to check that the credit is reflected correctly for coursework on the UCA transcript. If a student receives the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the student must request that an official transcript reflecting credit be sent to ADHE from the Office of the Registrar in order to maintain the scholarship.
