What are the eligibility requirements to apply to be on Student Orientation Staff (SOS)?
All staff members must meet these minimum requirements:

At least a 2.5 cumulative UCA GPA at the time of your interview and throughout the year

Completed at least one semester at UCA as a full-time student

Be an enrolled UCA student for Spring 2023 and Fall 2023

Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University
What are the time commitments to be on Student Orientation Staff for 2023?
MANDATORY TIME COMMITMENTS
The time commitments listed below are mandatory. If you cannot attend these dates, please do not apply to be on staff. Please make sure family vacations, work expectations, other student organization retreats, and any other summer obligations do not conflict with these dates. If you determine there is a conflict after you are selected, you still will not be able to continue on SOS without meeting the time commitments.
SPRING TRAINING
- Friday, April 14: 6:00pm - 10:00 pm
- Saturday, April 15: 9:00am - 6:00 pm
SOAR (Summer Orientation & Academic Registration)
SOAR sessions are full day commitments; only exceptions are UCA summer classes. You will sign up for your SOAR dates during SOS spring training. It is not necessary that you live in Conway/close to Conway during the summer. On-campus housing is provided during your SOAR dates.
- 2-Day Sessions: There are six, two-day SOAR sessions and you must work at least three full sessions. 2-Day sessions will be held May 22-23, May 31-June1, June 11-12, June 14-15, June 25-26, June 27-28.
- 1-Day Sessions: There are six, one-day SOAR sessions and you must work at least three full sessions. 1-Day sessions will be held May 25, June 13, June 20, June 22, June 29, July 24.
FALL TRAINING (Overnight Retreat)
- Wednesday, August 16 (8:00 am) - Thursday, August 17 (6:00 pm)
TEAM MEETING
- Friday, August 18, 12 pm - 5 pm
WELCOME WEEK
- Saturday, August 19-Wednesday, August 23. Expect to work 12-15 hour days during Welcome Week. There will not be enough time to work another job from August 19-23.
CELEBRATION BANQUET
- Monday, August 28, 6:30 pm
I don't live in Conway. Can I still apply to be on staff?
Yes, if you are selected to be on staff, it is not necessary that you live in Conway/close to Conway during the summer. On-campus housing is provided to SOS staff during your SOAR dates.
Can I be a member of Housing Staff and be on SOS?
No, unfortunately due to the time commitments and overlap of required dates to be on SOS, you cannot be a member of Housing Staff (RA, LA, etc) for Fall 2023 and on Student Orientation Staff.
