Biling Chen is Professor of English at the School of Language and Literature. Originally from
Taiwan, she earned an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph. D. in English from the University of Connecticut. She has taught
a variety of courses at UCA, such as World Literature, Asian American Literature, Post-Colonial
Literature, and Asian Literature in a Global Context. In addition to an edited book,
Conversations with Gish Jen (University Press of Mississippi, 2018), she has published articles
on the works of Anglo-Irish women writers, Edith Sommerville and Martin Ross; Chinese
American writer, Gish Jen; Vietnamese American writer, Viet Thanh Nguyen; British Pakistani
writer, Mohsin Hamid; Japanese writer, Ueda Akinari; Chinese writer Eileen Chang; and
Taiwanese writer, Lai Hsiang-yin. Her current research and writing projects focus on Gish Jen
and Mohsin Hamid.
