M99-12 – FIRST STATE BANK NEWSPAPER COLLECTION

This newspaper collection was compiled by employees of First State Bank of Conway.  For many years the chief operating officer of First State Bank was Thomas Wilson of Conway who was also considered the founder of the bank.  The newspaper collection spans the years of 1946-1973 and 1985-1997.

Item 1 – A scrapbook featuring photos and newspaper clippings including their grand opening, Conway Tornado in 1957, Baldwin Piano Factory just opening and Children’s Colony Plans Approved. (1946-1959)

Item 2 – A scrapbook featuring newspaper clippings including Photograph of Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile launching site, Whit Co., Arkansas, Ward Body Works, Desegregation of Conway, and many more. (1960-1966)

Item 3 – A Scrapbook featuring newspaper clippings including national credit plan untaken by First State Bank, Lock and Dam Construction on East Side of Toad Suck reaches half point, and Kimberly Clark announces plans for plant in Conway.  (1967-1973)

Item 4 – This scrapbook holds newspaper clipping including Thomas G. Wilson founder of First State Bank dies at age 80, Leader Institute First Graduate, and Clinton takes Presidential Oath. (1985-1993)

Item 5 – This scrapbook holds newspaper clippings including Bank leadership Change, Tribute to Woody Cummins, and Kordsmeier Furniture Co. 70 years of success; 1993-1994 and 1996-1997
