M98-05 – JOE GOSS COLLECTION

This is a collection of Army Sketch Books by Edwin Forbes donated to the Archives.  The books detail, in stories and drawings, the life of soldiers during the Civil War in America.

Edwin Forbes is known best for his depiction of life as a soldier during the Civil War.  He traveled with the army, and even went to the front line in his search for an accurate portrayal of war life.  Many of his drawings are currently being displayed and preserved at the Library of Congress.

The books are circa 1894 and are to be copied with special permission only.  They are very fragile.
