M94-08 – HARRY STEINBERG COLLECTION

The collection consists of the papers of Harry Steinberg.  It also includes materials and correspondence of several of his brothers, S. Steinberg, Nathan and Jake Steinberg, and his cousin, Samuel Sklar.  Harry Steinberg was born in 1897 in Neelyville, Missouri to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Steinberg, both of Jewish heritages.  He died in 1971 in El Dorado, Arkansas, where he had lived and worked for 46 years.  He attended the University of Arkansas, University of Missouri, and graduated in 1921 with an A.B. degree from Washington University in St. Louis.  He received a law degree there in 1924, and later became a prominent attorney.  Steinberg was a veteran of WWI and WWII.  He organized the first AMVET post in Arkansas and served as the national vice commander for the organization at one time.  He was also very active in Masonic organizations in the state.
