This collection contains the papers of Miss Mary Jane Scott, born in Vilonia, Arkansas on January 7, 1907. She died on November 7, 1985. Miss Scott was closely associated with the University of Central Arkansas. She graduated from Vilonia High School, and then she studied at Arkansas State Teachers College, receiving an education degree in 1930. She later took a Masters degree from the University of Minnesota and in 1960 she completed her doctorate from the University of Tennessee.
Miss Scott taught in many schools in Arkansas. Her career in higher education included stints at Indiana State University, the University of Arkansas, and the Arkansas State Teachers College where she was chairwoman of the Home Economics Department. She was also a Home Economist in Jefferson County for a time. Her sister, Miss Leona Scott, also taught at ASTC.
