This collection consists of materials relating to the Arkansas conference convened to discuss the status and future of libraries in the state and nation. The conference was held in Little Rock with eighty delegates and twenty alternates participating. The meeting was one of a series held across the country preparatory to the convening of the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services.
One goal of the conference was to develop plans on how to improve library and information services in Arkansas. This was addressed by the passing of resolutions. Another goal was to foster and emphasize the importance of cooperation between four groups of people: librarians and information professionals, library trustees, government officials at all levels and the general public. The groups were represented in the delegates attending the conference.
