Walter Harris Nunn was born in Monticello, Arkansas on February 17, 1942, but grew up in Crossett, Arkansas where he attended the local public schools. Afterward, he entered Hendrix College at Conway, Arkansas where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He immediately entered graduate school at the University of Kansas where, in June 1966, he received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science. His college research interest was in constitutional revision.
During the Arkansas Constitution Convention of 1969-70, Nunn was employed to conduct research. His papers attest to his deep and on-going interest in constitutional revision.
In the early 1970s, Nunn established Rose Publishing Company in Little Rock. From 1974 until 1976, he was also a co-owner of The Arkansas Advocate, a liberal monthly news- magazine.
In addition to his work with Rose Publishing Company, Nunn has held a number of jobs. He was the Executive Director of the Arkansas Institute of Politics and Government, State Printing Clerk in the office of the State Auditor, and Director of the Arkansas International Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Nunn is married to Gale Stewart, a Little Rock attorney. They have two children.

The papers are arranged in two series.
Series I – Personal Papers and Organizations; Personal papers consisting mainly of papers/correspondence related to his college honors paper project and graduate school. Organization papers consist primarily of correspondence germane to the purpose of that organization: e.g., Arkansas Institute for Social Justice, Inc.
Series II – Politics and Government; consists mainly of papers and books on the Arkansas Constitution and its amendments and revisions. Others material pertains to the various facets of state and local government; e.g., election returns, campaign data, city and county annexation, taxation and budget, etc.
