The Mary Caviness Papers consist of personal correspondence, business papers (insurance policies, tax receipts, etc.) and a few miscellaneous papers. An African American female, Caviness was probably born c.1885. She apparently never married. The papers reveal that she owned property in Hot Springs and was often a benefactress to several family members and friends.
