M08-08 – JUANITA WHITE CAMPBELL COLLECTION

Juanita White Campbell was born in 1901 in Conway, Arkansas and graduated from Conway High School.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1935 and a Master’s degree in Library Science from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1951.  She was the librarian for Conway High School for fifteen years and was supervisor over the libraries for all of Conway’s Public Schools. She was at work when she suffered a major stroke and died the same day on January 7, 1957.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Campbell, a Faulkner County game warden. She was survived by and son, Walter K. Campbell of Houston, Texas; her mother, Mrs. Della White of Conway; a brother, Faber White of Osceloa, and four sisters, Mrs. Chester Carter of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Charles Mosley of Camden, Mrs. Rufus Haynes of Paragould and Mrs. Lyle T. Hooker of Wayne, Michigan.  Funeral plans were handled by Pence Funeral Service of Conway.  The Rev. James H. Street, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated at her funeral.  She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Conway Business and Professional women’s Club the OES and two educational sororities, the Kappa Iota and Delta Kappa Gamma.
