M03-11 – DR. CARL FORSBERG COLLECTION

Dr. Carl Forsberg received his Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana and he received his Master of Arts in Music from the State University of Iowa, Iowa City.  In 1964, Dr. Carl Forsberg earned his Ph.D. in Musicology from the Indiana University, Bloomington.

He had already joined the faculty at the University of Central Arkansas in 1949 and along with the late Jean Adams, had developed a string program in the Conway Public School System.  From 1970 to 1980 he served as the Chairman for the Department of Music at UCA.  July 1, 1984, Dr. Carl Forsberg retired from his position at UCA leaving behind a teaching legacy in Violin, music history, various literature courses, and as a conductor of the University Orchestra.

Dr. Forsberg was also a member of the Arkansas Symphony from 1949-1984.  The Arkansas State Music Teacher Association named him College Teacher of the Year in 1981 and he received the “Presidents Achievement Award” from the University of  Central Arkansas in 1972.

Dr. Carl Forsberg also authored the book A History of the Department of Music 1908-1980.
