Sigma Tau Gamma can trace its beginning to the Clary and Wingo Literary Societies. Five men from each of the aforementioned literary societies formed the Owls in October 1916. The Owls adopted Greek letters and became known as Kappa Phi Sigma on February 12, 1928. Kappa Phi Sigma became Sigma Tau Gamma on November 30, 1934.
