The welfare of the Bear family is the foremost concern of the University of Central Arkansas Alumni Association, particularly during this COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, the UCA Alumni Association, along with the Alumni Board of Directors, have decided not to host in-person events for Homecoming 2020. This decision is unrelated to the plan for football games for fall 2020.
“Admittedly, it’s disappointing that traditional Homecoming activities are not possible this year; however, the Alumni Association is moving forward with a series of virtual events this fall that will enable alumni to connect and engage from the comfort of their homes,” said Aaron Knight, UCA Alumni Board president. “No physical barrier can contain the UCA spirit, and we look forward to inviting familiar faces, and maybe some new ones, as we gather together virtually this Homecoming.”
This announcement only pertains to Homecoming events and celebrations hosted by the UCA Alumni Association, including the Half-Century Club Induction, Alumni and Friends Party and Bear Bash. Unfortunately, the traditional format of these alumni Homecoming events would make it difficult to monitor social distancing and event capacity.
At this time, the Office of Alumni Relations plans for a virtual experience for Homecoming 2020. More information will be released soon.
“This decision was a difficult one to make, as Homecoming is such a robust tradition at UCA,” said Alison Taylor, executive director of alumni relations. “The Office of Alumni Relations commits to maintaining the essence of a traditional Homecoming when envisioning the possibilities for Homecoming 2020.”
The Office of Student Life and Homecoming Committee are considering options for student events.
Virtual options for alumni tailgates and watch parties for UCA football have been created to allow Bear fans to interact prior to and during the game. Details are forthcoming. Visit uca.edu/homecoming for the latest information.
